MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
This year has been a big and fantastic year for ECFS. We have raised the standard of our events and getting more in- terest from our members. THE BSC- BUSINESS STRATEGY COMPETITION
The BSC kick started with a successful information session on the 4thof Oct. It is a fantastic opportunity for students to work in teams to solve real life business problems that a particular company is facing. Students have the opportunity to develop their communica- tion skills, improve their public speaking skills and also allow stu- dents to take a more creative approach to business strategy. The first round of presentations commenced on Monday the 11thof Oct at the Faculty of Business and Economics building. We had presentations from 9 teams who were given 10 minutes to present their strategies to the judges from our sponsors Deloitte (deloitte haven’t judged yet they only judge the final round) and the univer- sity Business and Economics faculty itself. This was followed by a 5 minute question and answer session by the judges who tested the participants to find out if they have done their homework on the case study. AGM. YOUR CHANCE TO JOIN THE TEAM IN 2011!
The ECFS Annual General Meeting is to be held at the end of this year (2010). All current executives from 2010 will step down to give the opportunity to someone new. Becoming an executive is a great way to meet a lot of new people, be a part of organizing highly suc- cessful events and also skyrocketing the value of your CV. This is a great opportunity to play an active role outside the class room and give something back to the university. You don’t have to run for an ECFS executive position, come along and show support to the ones who are running for a position be- cause we need your votes to decide on who is the most suitable candidate for the role and on constitutional changes. On the day you will get a chance to hear from all our executives about what they have done in that year and what to expect if you were to become an executive of ECFS. This will be followed by a voting to select the next executives for 2011. Also some current ex- ecutives will be running for President and Vice President of the so- ciety. ECFS organized a treasure hunt where the high school students were given a list of classrooms to look for around university. And the teams who completed the list were put to a draw where the 1st prize was a $50 MYER gift card, 2nd prize was 2 movie passes from MQ centre and a ton of chocolate for everyone who took part.
CAREER EVENT: SUMMER INTERNSHIPS, TAKE YOUR FIRST STEP!
In week 2 ECFS held our second major careers event for 2010. The event was focused on summer internship opportunities for the 2010/2011 university holidays with our sponsors firms. Over 100 members turned up to hear from professionals at Deloitte and Ernst & Young about their experiences in service lines as di- verse as Auditing, IT consulting, Human resources consulting, Au- diting, Tax advisory and Transaction advisory. The event was fully catered and gave both our sponsors and mem- bers a valuable opportunity to network and gave members the op- portunity to find out which business areas they were passionate about, and where they would like to spend their summer.
